The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season presents a diverse group of characters residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
